The Death and Life of Schneider Wrack
By Nate Crowley

Schneider Wrack was dead. Until he wasn’t.

Convicted of a crime he’s almost completely sure he didn’t commit, executed, reanimated, then pressed into service aboard a vast trawler on the terrible world of Ocean, he was set to spend his afterlife working until his mindless corpse falls apart.

But now he’s woken up, trapped in a rotting body, arm-deep in the stinking meat and blubber of a sea monster, and he’s not happy. It’s time for the dead to rise up.

From the stench and brine of Ocean to the fetid jungle of Grand Amazon, Schneider’s career as a revolutionary won’t be easy. But sometimes a zombie’s gotta do what a zombie’s gotta do…

Nate Crowley returns to Abaddon with Grand Amazon!

Nate Crowley, the acclaimed author of 2015 Abaddon novella The Sea Hates A Coward, returns to the Tomes of the Dead series this summer with a gut-churning sequel: Tomes of the Dead: Grand Amazon.

After signing to Abaddon in the wake of his now infamous Twitter saga Daniel Barker’s Birthday (as reported on Buzzfeed), Crowley’s singular voice quickly marked him out as one of Abaddon’s most exciting – and peculiar – new authors.

In The Sea Hates A Coward, Crowley took us on an unforgettably grim voyage. Now Grand Amazon moves the action – and our hero, the dead convict turned revolutionary turned weird-preserved-monster-brain Schneider Wrack – from the sea to the jungle, in a tale that oozes dark humour and lip-smacking wordsmithery.

David Thomas Moore, Commissioning Editor for Abaddon Books, said:

The Sea Hates A Coward was one of the most delightful surprises of 2015, a mad, careening tale of revenge, rebellion, existential dread and chthonic horror – and more synonyms for rotting blubber than I’m entirely comfortable with. Nate’s no less of a delight, a gregarious, self-effacing and profoundly creative soul with a distinctly crooked imagination. It’s wonderful to be inviting the fierce, sad, strange Wrack and Mouana to continue telling their stories.”

Author Nate Crowley said,

“Readers told me they left The Sea Hates A Coward wanting to know more about the world behind it, and this book will deliver relentlessly on that front. As well as learning more about the execution victims who drove the action in book one, we’re going to encounter the state that made them – and its ruthless enemies. And while the mood of TSHAC was all about oceanic horror, Grand Amazon is a jungle story, full of the maddening fecundity of the tropics. I’m gleeful at Abaddon giving me free rein to keep playing with this lovely nightmare (they’re a good publisher like that), and I can’t wait to get the book out. So pack your bug spray, and I’ll see you there.”

Tomes of the Dead: Grand Amazon by Nate Crowley is out on 19 August 2016.

Tomes of the Dead: Grand Amazon
By Nate Crowley

What do you live for if you’re dead?

For Schneider Wrack, a rebel made into a monster, it’s freedom, and the chance of understanding who he once was. For Mouana, an executed soldier made into a slave, it’s justice. A world-shaking revolt has given them charge of the titanic whaling ship that was their prison, and now it’s steaming towards the city that killed them.

Mouana wants more than revenge – she’s out to destroy the grim technology that enslaved her and thousands of her comrades. But it’s a lot harder to kill an idea than a person, and this idea has deep roots.

It’ll bring them into conflict with terrifying powers, test the limits of their failing bodies, and take them far from the worlds of their birth, to the measureless wilderness known only as Grand Amazon.

It’s a jungle out there.
