In the world-sized city of Jadzia, magic and ancient science merge into something dark and wondrous.

Koré’s life is consumed by power, politics, sex and vengeance, and as courtesan to the wealthy and powerful, he is privy to all manner of secrets. He knows meddling in politics is dangerous─still, he is willing to risk everything to stop his father from seizing the Imperial Throne of the War District. But Koré soon finds the corruption runs far deeper than just one man.

During a tryst in an ancient tomb─in the pursuit of political influence─Koré encounters a dying god, who imbues him with the powers of one of the city’s sacred dragons. Suddenly Koré finds himself a hunted man, threatened with becoming a pawn by whoever finds him first.

If the wrong person discovers his secret and lays claim to his powers they would plunge their world into war, unleash untold horrors and destroy the city─and the two people he has come to love.

Solaris acquires magical fantasy Silk Fire by Zabé Ellor

Zabe Ellor

Solaris is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Silk Fire by Zabé Ellor, publishing summer 2022.

Set in a planet-sized matriarchal city where magic and technology freely bleed together, a male courtesan’s quest for vengeance against his aristocrat father draws him into an ancient struggle between dragons, necromancers, and his home district’s violent history.

Editor Kate Coe acquired World English rights in Ellor’s novel from Kaitlyn Johnson at Belcastro Agency.

About the book:

Koré knew that meddling in politics could end badly, particularly when trying to sabotage his aristocratic father’s campaign before it destroys the city loves. And when a chance encounter with a dying god imbues him with magic-breathing powers, it gets worse: he suddenly becomes a commodity – and a political player.

But the corruption in his city runs deeper than just one man, and an ally’s betrayal unleashes an army of the dead on his home district. Koré must trust the world with his deepest secret to stand beside the woman and man he’s finally let himself love, as only the bright truth of dragon’s fire can break the iron fist of a necromancer’s hold.

Author Zabé Ellor on the news:

“I’m so happy to be working with you on this project! Bringing this book to life has been a dream of mine for ages and I couldn’t imagine a better team to bring SILK FIRE to life!”

Editor Kate Coe had this to say:

Silk Fire brought feelings of Kushiel’s Dart mixed with Temeraire; it’s a beautifully-written story of love, politics, passion, magic – and dragons, gods and necromancers. I’m very pleased to have acquired it for Solaris!”

Zabé Ellor is a literary agent with The Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency, and all-around creative nerd from Washington D.C.
