ABADDON TO PUBLISH NEW NOVEL IN THE GODS & MONSTERS SERIES FROM CASSANDRA KHAW

Abaddon is thrilled to announce the acquisition of a new novel in the Gods & Monsters universe that will bring together all four characters from previous installments in one gloriously original story, set to come out in 2018.

The Gods & Monsters series has seen writers such as Chuck Wendig, Stephen Blackmoore, Hilary Monahan, and Pat Kelleher at the helm of these pulpy, horror-filled, engagingly gory stories.

Now, the hugely talented Cassandra Khaw – author of Food of the Gods – takes on the challenge of bringing all of these strands together for the first time.

Abaddon’s Editor-in-Chief, David Moore commented:

“Gods & Monsters is an amazing series – dark, punky, magical, and obnoxious – with some incredible authors; and Cass’s Food of the Gods, as delicious as it is grotesque, is its greatest success story. That she’s agreed to revisit the world, and to stitch Case’s, Louie’s, Tanis’s and Rupert’s stories together, is more than I could have hoped for. I’m utterly thrilled.”

Cassandra Khaw said:

“This began as a slightly drunken joke many months ago, with Dave musing if there was ever going to be a way to make all the protagonists of the Gods & Monsters series come together. Which is, well, hard, given their respective disposition and geographical placements.

“But I had an idea. A wild, ridiculous idea that ended with Dave raising his eyebrows and going, ‘This might work.’ Many months later, we’re here, and I’m already plotting out the route everyone’s going to take.

“This is an adventure that will cross Malaysia to Florida, Vegas to Heaven. There’ll be food. There’ll be death. There’ll be at least one case of dog-petting. It’d be like one of those jokes you hear all the time, ‘What do you do when Rupert, a prophet, a lamia, and a son of the devil walk into the room?’…”

We’re excited to see Khaw’s creative genius in perfect and awe-inspiring display in this new novel and we cannot wait to have this in our hands, and to share it with our readers.

About the author

Cassandra Khaw writes horror, press releases, video games, articles about video games, and tabletop RPGs. These are not necessarily unrelated items. Her work can be found in professional short story magazines such as Clarkesworld, Fireside Fiction, Uncanny, and Shimmer. Cassandra’s first original novella, Hammers on Bone, came out in October 2016 from Tor.com. To her mild surprise, people seem to enjoy it. She occasionally spends time in a Muay Thai gym punching people and pads

Food of the Gods
By Cassandra Khaw

By day, Rupert Wong – former triad soldier and sorcerer turned chef – prepares delicious meals from human meat for a dynasty of powerful ghouls in Kuala Lumpur; by night, he’s a seneschal and arbitrator for the Ten Chinese Hells. It’s a living, if not much of one.

When Ao Qin – Dragon of the South, god of the seas – smashes in Rupert’s window and demands he investigate his daughter and her mortal husband’s murders, his peaceful (if not particularly comfortable) life comes to an end.

Caught up in a war between pantheons, shipped around the world, going toe-to-toe with Elder Gods From Outside Space And Time, and always taking the time to read the fine print, Rupert’s going to need all his wits and a lot of luck to survive.

Rupert Wong and the Ends of the Earth out today!

Rejoice! For today is the day that Rupert Wong, Cassandra Khaw’s ever-troubled none-more-anti-hero returns in Rupert Wong and the Ends of the Earth.

This gloriously gory piece of deity-baiting brilliance continues the story of Rupert as he attempts to placate creatures from the realms beyond, cook human flesh, and, crucially, not be torn into small pieces.

To celebrate the release of Rupert’s continuing tale of woe, Cass has written pieces for SciFiNow, SciFi Bulletin, and Civilian Reader.

Food of the Gods cover reveal

We flippin’ love Cassandra Khaw here at Abaddon. Quite apart from being hugely talented, she’s got the knack for creating the sort of characters we love – tricksy, whip-smart and up to their elbows in gore and trouble.

So it’s no great suprise that we’re collecting Cassandra’s Rupert Wong: Cannibal Chef, her most awesome debut novella, along with forthcoming novella Rupert Wong and the Ends of the Earth into one eye-catching volume.

Food of the Gods is coming from Abaddon in May 2017, so keep your eyes peeled next spring. Until then, he’s a little about Rupert and the mess he’s got himself into…
